The second child of the Hurley family, Rebecca Hurley was given every possible opportunity from the moment she was born. By nature she was quiet and contemplative, excelling academically even though she tended to be one of the quieter kids in the class. Her teachers had nothing but good things to say about her and her work, though they did mention to the Hurleys that their shy, introverted daughter might benefit from some extracurricular activities. So, at age seven, Rebecca decided that she wanted to take riding lessons. It wasn't exactly the team sport or the club that her parents had envisioned, but it made Rebecca happy and by that point, the Hurleys had bigger things on their mind. They informed Rebecca and her brother that the two of them were going to be getting a new baby sibling in a few months, which immediately had Rebecca imagining a sister to share everything with.

However, instead of a sister, Rebecca got a brother. She was initially disappointed by this turn of events, but once Rebecca got the chance to hold her brother, everything changed. Seth was an adorable kid and Rebecca took her role as big sister very seriously. It meant that more often than not she got stuck babysitting him, but she didn't mind. She had never really felt close with her older brother, but Anthony made her feel like she had a friend in the family.

In high school, Rebecca started to break out of her shell. By the end of freshman year, she had a solid group of friends and she was finally able to break free of her brother's reputation once he went off to college. Rebecca was an artist and involved herself in the school's literary magazine, working her way up to editor in chief by her senior year. Rebecca was a straight-A student and she was involved in a relationship with a guy that her whole family adored. Things were absolutely amazing for her, but in March of her senior year, everything started to unravel.

The seventeen year old had been dealing with severe nausea and dizziness and she found out shortly before St. Patrick's Day that she and her boyfriend were expecting a baby. The two teenagers were naturally terrified - they were supposed to be going to college in a few months, not preparing for the arrival of a child. In a panic, Rebecca confided in her mother. The two of them had always been close, and in this situation, Rebecca needed her mom. Her mom called in Rebecca's grandmother, and the two older women went over the options available to her. Initially, Rebecca didn't want to tell her father, but her mother filled him in once a decision was made. As much as she hated to do it, seventeen-year-old Rebecca was nowhere near ready to be a parent, and it seemed like the best idea would be to terminate the pregnancy.

The months that followed were a nightmare in the Hurley house. Rebecca's relationship couldn't take the strain, so she and her boyfriend broke up shortly after the deed was done. In the aftermath, there were plenty of screaming fights between Rebecca and her parents, slamming doors and broken curfews. The once compliant, good-natured Rebecca seemed like she was possessed by a demon, but her mother assured the men of the house that it was just a phase and that it would end soon. It was a result of the breakup, she told them. Nothing to worry about. Meanwhile, Rebecca spent the last few months of her senior year in turmoil over the decision she had made and the fallout from it.

The summer and the beginning of college helped her to move past everything that had happened. Rebecca was at the University of Miami, miles away from St. Augustine, her family, and the drama of her senior year. In Miami, Rebecca had time to heal emotionally and she found a way to translate her desire to help people into a career. Her mother thought she should have gone for pre-med, but Rebecca enjoyed nursing and her mother acquiesced after hearing how good her program was and how having the bachelor's degree would give her a better chance at promotions and good placements. She made the dean's list semester after semester, graduating in May of 2010 with honors.

Following her graduation, Rebecca returned to St. Augustine. At first, she lived with her parents and then with roommates. But four years after her return, Rebecca decided to put her savings to good use and bought herself a two bedroom house in St. Augustine, where she lives with her dog, her cat, and a hedgehog. She works a crazy schedule in the Flagler Hospital emergency room, but in her spare time she volunteers for a horse rescue and takes yoga lessons.
